We first published this list in 2015. A lot has changed in a decade, so we've rebuilt it from scratch using the Costa Rica retreats we profiled and checked in October 2026.

## How we chose

Every place here has yoga at the center of the stay, or at least built into every day, and was open and taking bookings when we checked. We read each one's official site and looked for any coverage in the publications we track. We've grouped them by region because in Costa Rica the coast you pick shapes the trip as much as the retreat does. The order within each region isn't a ranking.

## Osa Peninsula and the southern Pacific

This is the wildest part of the country, with rainforest running down to the sea and fewer crowds.

**[Blue Osa](/blue-osa-yoga-sanctuary-and-spa/)** sits right on a private beach at Playa Tamales near Puerto Jiménez. It's small, with 13 rooms, runs mostly on solar power and has an open-air yoga deck about 50 meters from the water. The resort says most guests come on their own, so it's a comfortable choice for solo travelers. Meals are included and mostly plant-based, though the kitchen can't cater for special diets.

**[Ojo del Mar](/ojo-del-mar/)** is a family-run beach lodge at Cabo Matapalo, at the tip of the peninsula, with daily Vinyasa and Hatha classes in a screened hardwood shala. It's simple and off-grid, with solar power, well water and patchy Wi-Fi, which is part of the appeal.

**[The Yoga Farm](/the-yoga-farm/)** is a rustic community above Punta Banco, near the Panama border. Most people come for a month-long residency with daily yoga, three mostly vegetarian meals and 10 to 15 hours a week of help on the farm. It runs from December through June, so confirm dates before you plan.

**[Danyasa](/danyasa-yoga-retreats-and-teacher-training/)** is an adults-only eco-lodge on the main street of Dominical, two minutes from the beach. Its open-air bamboo studio offers drop-in classes, and visiting teachers run week-long retreats here. It's the pick if you want a surf town outside the gate.

## Central Pacific

**[Vida Asana](/vida-asana/)** has been running since 2002 near Playa Hermosa, just south of Jacó, and it was one of the first yoga retreat centers on the country's Pacific coast. There are two shalas, a pool and riverside rainforest, and personal retreats come with meals and up to ten classes a week. It's about 90 minutes by road from San José's international airport.

## Nicoya Peninsula

**[Bodhi Tree Yoga Resort](/bodhi-tree-yoga-resort/)** in Nosara is the big one: more than 57 rooms, several shalas and a packed daily schedule that runs from vinyasa and yin to sound baths and reformer Pilates. Add a spa, gym and surf lessons and it's the best fit for people who want lots of choice.

**[Anamaya](/anamaya-yoga-retreat-yoga-teacher-training/)** is a 14-room hillside resort above Montezuma with an ocean-view yoga deck, organic meals and its own retreats alongside guest-led weeks. National Geographic included it in its [Best of the World 2026](https://www.nationalgeographic.com/travel/best-of-the-world-2026/article/best-wellness-destinations) wellness list. Anamaya shares an owner with this site, and we've held it to the same standard as every other pick.

**[Hotel Horizon](/horizons-yoga-hotel/)** is a quiet yoga hotel on a hill above Santa Teresa, with a hilltop deck looking over the ocean. The cabins have kitchens, and the team can put together a personal retreat that mixes yoga, surf lessons and massage.

**[Harmony Hotel](/harmony-hotel/)** in Nosara isn't a retreat with a timetable, but every guest gets a free yoga class each day, plus sauna and cold plunge. It's two minutes from Playa Guiones and works well for families or couples who want yoga on their own terms.

## Southern Caribbean coast

The Caribbean side is quieter and greener, with rainforest close to the shore.

**[Samasati](/samasati-nature-retreat/)** sits on 250 acres of hillside rainforest above Puerto Viejo, most of it a private reserve since 1996. Yoga and meditation happen among the trees and on terraces, with sound baths and forest bathing on the menu. The beach is a short shuttle ride down.

**[Tierra de Sueños](/tierra-de-suenos-lodge/)** is a seven-bungalow lodge at Playa Chiquita with all-levels classes twice a week, private sessions on request, an infrared sauna and a very cold plunge. There's no air conditioning, so it suits people happy with natural airflow.

**[Kindred Spirits](/kindred-spirits-equestrians-retreats/)** in Cocles pairs yoga with gentle work alongside horses, including swimming with them in the sea. It's unusual, and lovely if you like horses.

## Which coast is right for you?

If you want wildlife and quiet, go south to the Osa. If you want a surf town, lots of classes and an easier journey, the Nicoya Peninsula or the central Pacific makes more sense. The Caribbean is best for rainforest and a slower rhythm. Getting between regions takes time, so most people pick one coast. ## Frequently asked questions

### When's the best time for a yoga retreat in Costa Rica?
December to April is the dry season. Many retreats run year-round, and the green season from May to November is quieter, with September and October usually the wettest months.

### Do I need yoga experience?
No. Blue Osa says you don't need to be a yogi to come, Anamaya's classes are open to a range of levels, and Bodhi Tree's busy schedule lets you pick gentler classes like yin and restore. The Yoga Farm and Kindred Spirits suit people who like hands-on, community-style stays.

### Which retreats are best for solo travelers?
Blue Osa says most of its guests travel alone. Vida Asana's personal retreats and Samasati also work well on your own.

### Can I teach my own retreat at these places?
Yes, several host visiting teachers, including Danyasa, Samasati, Tierra de Sueños, Ojo del Mar and Anamaya.
