## What it's like

Évian Resort is less a single hotel than a small world of its own. It spreads across parkland above Évian-les-Bains, on the French side of Lake Geneva, with Swiss shores visible across the water and the Haute-Savoie mountains rising behind. The whole place grew up around evian mineral water, which the resort says spends about fifteen years filtering through the Alps before it surfaces, and that story runs through its spa concept.

There are three hotels. The Hôtel Royal is the flagship, a Belle Époque palace hotel with 150 rooms, 32 of them suites, set in a 19-hectare private estate. Hôtel Ermitage is a four-star hotel among the trees that's especially popular with families. Hôtel La Verniaz is a long-standing hotel in the wooded upper part of the resort. Add eleven restaurants, two golf courses, a casino, a concert hall and tennis and padel courts, and you get the picture: this is a resort first, with wellness at its core.

## The spas and wellness

- **evian SPA at Hôtel Royal.** A 1,700 square metre spa designed around the life cycle of mineral water, from rain and snow on the Gavot plateau to the spring. Treatments focus on relaxation, detox-style body rituals and skin hydration.
- **Spa Quatre Terres at Hôtel Ermitage.** A nature-themed spa using clay, stones, crystals and earth extracts, with natural and organic skincare brands. It has an indoor pool, sauna, steam room and gym, and a gentle first spa experience for children aged 6 to 11.
- **Les Thermes evian.** The evian thermal baths sit a few minutes from the resort and focus on health and the properties of the mineral water.

Outside the spas, there's the Evian Resort Golf Club, whose Champions Course hosts a major women's professional tournament each year, plus a six-hole academy course. Walking, lake trips and day outings to places like Yvoire, Lausanne and Chillon Castle are all close by.

## Families

Few wellness destinations handle children this well. The Kid's Resort covers a Baby Club for little ones from a few months old, a Kid's Club from age 3 in a 1,000 square metre space, and a Teen's Club for 10 to 17 year olds. There's a family pool with its own lifeguard, interconnecting rooms and babysitting on request. At Hôtel Ermitage, the relaxation areas are kept for over-10s, with set times for kids in the pools.

## Who it suits (and who it doesn't)

It's ideal for families who want parents to get real spa time while kids are happily busy, and for couples who like a polished, full-service resort with golf and fine dining on hand. Golfers will feel especially at home.

If you're after a quiet, program-led retreat with a fixed daily schedule, a small retreat center will suit you better. This is a lively, many-sided resort.

## Getting there

Geneva airport is about 45 km away, and the resort can arrange transfers from the airport or Geneva station. Annecy airport is around 80 km away, and Lyon is under 200 km. By train, TGV services link Paris with Geneva and Lausanne, with direct Paris to Évian trains at weekends. You can also cross the lake from Lausanne by ferry, a ride of about 35 minutes. A shuttle links the resort's hotels and sites with the town.
