Miraval Austin is an adults-only, all-inclusive wellness resort on more than 220 acres of Texas Hill Country, next to the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve. It suits adults who want a mix of spa time, mindfulness and hands-on activities like challenge courses and equine sessions, with meals and classes included.
What it's like
Miraval Austin covers more than 220 acres of rolling Hill Country northwest of Austin, and 170 of those acres are within the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve and will never be developed. That gives the resort a wild, open feel despite being close to the city. Cypress Creek runs through the property's farm.
The site has a long history as a retreat. It opened in 2003 as The Crossings and became Miraval's second resort, after the original in Tucson, in 2019. It's adults-only, and everything is set up so you can stop planning and just choose what to do next.
At the 2025 World Spa Awards, Miraval Austin was named the best wellness retreat in both Texas and North America.
How a stay works
Miraval runs on an all-inclusive model. Your package covers your room, all meals, snacks, coffee, smoothies and non-alcoholic drinks, daily wellbeing activities, full spa and resort access, a shared airport shuttle and gratuities. You also get a nightly resort credit to spend on spa treatments, paid activities or private sessions.
Activities
The daily menu is long and varied, and it leans toward experiences you won't find at a typical spa:
- Equine: a session using horses to explore self-leadership and communication
- Challenge courses: two ropes courses, including the Quantum Leap
- Mindfulness: floating meditation, a mindful Zen stroll, voice work and a cleansing ceremony
- Movement: slow-flow yoga in the Yoga Barn, preserve hikes and cardio drumming
- Food and farm: cooking sessions and tours of Cypress Creek Farm
- Archery
The spa
The Life in Balance Spa takes its cues from the surrounding landscape, with treatments delivered by specialists. Your nightly resort credit can go toward spa services.
Food
Meals are served at Hilltop Crossings Kitchen for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Cypress Creek Farm supplies produce and eggs, and the food is farm-to-table. Alcohol isn't part of the inclusive package, though premium zero-proof cocktails are available for an extra charge.
Who it suits (and who it doesn't)
It's a great pick for couples, friends and solo travelers who like a full menu of choices and want everything taken care of. It's especially good for anyone curious to try something new, from a ropes course to working with horses.
It's not for families, as guests must be 18 or over. If you want a strict medical program or a silent, minimal retreat, this probably isn't the right style either.
Getting there
Fly into Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. A shared airport shuttle is included in the package. The resort's address is 13500 FM 2769, Austin.
