The Horse Shoe Farm is an 85-acre boutique farm resort in Hendersonville, North Carolina, about 25 minutes from Asheville in the Blue Ridge Mountains. It suits couples, friends and small groups who want a relaxed countryside stay with spa treatments, yoga, nature trails and farm-to-table meals.

What it's like

The Horse Shoe Farm spreads across 85 acres of rolling countryside outside Hendersonville, in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina. It feels like a working farm turned into a small resort: horses and other farm animals, two ponds, walking trails, bike paths, ball fields and a riverside walk along the French Broad River. In the evening there are bonfires and s'mores.

The wellness side is woven into the property rather than tucked into one building. The Stable Spa occupies a renovated horse barn, there's a labyrinth you can walk at your own pace, and the old silo has been turned into a meditation tower, with a meditation room included in your stay. The area around the spa is a quiet zone.

Outside magazine included it in a 2025 roundup of North American trips for a healthier, longer life.

The programs

  • Wellness retreats. The farm runs its own retreats focused on slowing down, with themes ranging from movement and mindfulness to seasonal rituals. Dates and themes change through the year, so check the events page.
  • Spa. The Stable Spa offers massage and holistic body treatments and has a steam room and sauna. It's also open to day visitors.
  • Wellness classes. A rotating schedule of classes includes yoga, such as sunset sessions in the barn.
  • Seasonal events. Recent listings include a sunset sound bath and a seasonal dinner, and the farm also runs a Polar Bear Club.
  • Host your own retreat. Teachers and organizations can book the farm for group retreats, with separate terms for groups.

Where you'll stay and eat

Lodging ranges from lofts and rooms to cottages, suites and large estate homes, with space for up to 75 guests across the property. Homes come with linens, toiletries and kitchens stocked with basic cookware, and housekeeping is daily. Most homes and cottages need a two-night minimum, with longer minimums at peak times.

Breakfast at The Silo Cookhouse is included. The cookhouse serves farm-to-table breakfast, lunch and dinner every day at communal tables, and it's open to the public too. There's also a bar that opens at noon.

Who it suits (and who it doesn't)

It's a nice match for couples, groups of friends, families and retreat leaders who want a mix of nature, spa time and easy farm life near Asheville. Groups do well here because of the large homes.

It's not a strict, all-inclusive wellness program with a set daily schedule. If you want full-board meals, medical consultations or a structured detox, you'll want a different kind of place.

Getting there

Asheville Regional Airport is about 15 minutes away. Greenville-Spartanburg International is about an hour away, and Charlotte Douglas International about two hours. Downtown Hendersonville is 10 minutes by car and downtown Asheville about 25 minutes.
